5:00-6:00pm Dinner & Food Distribution
Durham Church and Iglesia Emanuel, along with many volunteers from the community, enjoy hosting a weekly distribution of food at our Wednesday night food pantry. The food pantry is first-come-first serve for the first 40 families. We share a hot meal at 5:00pm, and then at 5:30pm, guests “shop” for the items that are most of need to their families.
Staple items are bread, pasta, rice, beans, canned vegetables, and cereal, though we always have surprises and new items to share!
We are grateful for our partnership with Farmer Food Share, which connects our food ministry with a larger effort to support local farmers and create healthy food systems in our community. Farmer Food Share purchases fresh fruits and vegetables from the Saturday Farmer’s Market in Durham and contributes them directly to our food pantry.
How to get involved —
1) Show up and volunteer! Come to our fellowship hall between 4-4:30pm on Wednesdays to volunteer. We always have extra jobs and love extra hands.
2) Contribute! We run our food ministry on a shoestring budget, and every dollar stretches. On average, we offer 40 families a week’s groceries for less than $50 per week. Sponsor a week…or 10! Give online.
3) Contact us for specific ideas or if you want to do a special fundraiser or food drive to help out.
